10 Scriptures to guide you in parenting

Children are a gift from the Lord. Parenting is one of the most fulfilling jobs yet there are times parents are worried and confused about whether they are doing it the right way.

Many books have been written to give tips on handling different topics on parenting. God has called parents to a great task and promises to provide all that they need. His Word offers wisdom and encouragement through the different stages that children are in.

Use these Bible verses to help you train and guide your children in the ways of the Lord.

Parents, do not irritate your children, or they will become discouraged. Colossians 3:21(GNT)

Parents, do not treat your children in such a way as to make them angry. Instead, raise them with Christian discipline and instruction. Ephesians 6:4 (GNT)

Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him. Proverbs 13:24 (ESV)

Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6 (ESV)

The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother. Proverbs 29:15 (ESV)

Discipline your son, and he will give you rest; he will give delight to your heart. Proverbs 29:17 (ESV)

Hear, my son, your father’s instruction, and forsake not your mother’s teaching, for they are a graceful garland for your head and pendants for your neck. Proverbs 1:8-9 (ESV)

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Psalm 127:3 (ESV)

And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. Deuteronomy 6:6-7(ESV)

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother (this is the first commandment with a promise), that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land. Ephesians 6:1-3 (ESV)
