10 Scriptures to help you discipline your child

God has given parents a responsibility to raise children uprightly. The Bible in Malachi 2:15 reminds us that God is seeking a godly offspring. This is not an easy task given that there are challenges that come with the responsibility of parenting.

Children have different personalities, strengths, and weaknesses. It takes the grace of God to know how to direct these children in the ways of the Lord. Thankfully, the Bible directs parents on recommended methods of discipline.

Below are Scriptures that you will find helpful as you direct your child to grow uprightly.

Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you beat him with a rod, he will not die. Proverbs 23:13 (RSV)

The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother. Proverbs 29:15 (RSV)

For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant; later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Hebrews 12:11(RSV)

Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4(ESV)

Those whom I love, I reprove and chasten; so be zealous and repent. Revelation 3:19 (RSV)

Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline drives it far from him. Proverbs 22:15 (ESV)

Discipline your son, for there is hope; do not set your heart on putting him to death. Proverbs 19:18 (ESV)

Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid. Proverbs 12:1 (ESV)

Whoever ignores instruction despises himself, but he who listens to reproof gains intelligence. Proverbs 15:32 (ESV)

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6 (RSV)
