About the Revised Maasai Bible

Bible Society of Kenya officially unveiled the Revised Maasai Bible in Narok, Kenya on 11th August 2018. The Bible is a revision of the old Maasai Bible, firstly done in 1995.The Revision was done in consultation with the Maasai religious leaders and began in 2011.

The Bible serves the Maasai Community living in Kenya, has more features and offers a more modern, readable version of the Maasai Bible.

The Revised Maasai Bible took seven years to translate. This is the third Bible to be revised by the Bible Society of Kenya after the Kalenjin Bible. The Revised Bible has two editions; one with Deuterocanonical books mainly used by the Catholic faithful and the other without which is used by Protestant denominations,making it an inter-confessional Bible.

Features of The New Maasai Revised Bible

  • The Bible is written targeted at the Maasai of Kajiado and Narok unlike the previous one which was targeted at the Maasai community all the way from Tanzania to Samburu. Thus, the language used is clear and concise using the dialects used in Kajiado and Narok including Laikipia.
  • Archaic words and expressions have been removed and any offensive words dealt with.
  • More Illustrations/pictures have been inserted in the bible to make the message more clearer.
  • The introductions to each book have been expanded and made clearer.
  • The cross references have been added to assist pastors when they are preparing sermons.
  • The font size used is much bigger making the bible more legible and friendly to the eye.
  • Bible character information has been added at the beginning of the bible to help the readers familiarize themselves with bible characters even before they start reading the bible.
  • Footnotes have also been added to help the readers understand the message of the bible.
  • The glossary/wordlist has been expanded at the back of the Bible.
  • The bible comes in two versions – one targeted solery for the Protestant Christians with the 66 books, and the other for the Catholic Community Churches with the extra books.
