Be Strong and Courageous

What does Joshua 1:9 mean when God tells Joshua, ‘’ Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go’’?

To get the full meaning of this statement, we need to look at the context in which this word was spoken. God was speaking to Joshua at a time when Israel had just lost a great leader and prophet, Moses. Joshua had walked with Moses for a long time, and he must have felt a big impact of the loss.

God told Joshua to be strong and courageous as a reasurance that He was with him, emphasizing that he needed to rely on God alone. How many times have we found ourselves dwelling in frustrations, pain, and mistakes since we don’t know who to turn to? God reminded Joshua that as he walked with Moses and He will do the same with him.

How does this apply to our lives? How do I know that God is with me? How do I become strong and courageous? God doesn’t lie when He says He will never leave or forsake you. He is faithful and remains true to his word.

Application:

  1. Every morning surrender all to God
  2. Ask for grace and strength for that day
  3. Be honest with God
