Four steps to finding God’s will for our lives
How do I find God’s will for my life? This question used to ring in my head for a long time as a young teen and youth. Seeing as a life filled with many opportunities, career options, advice from all walks of life, and also freedom we get to enjoy.
Some of these many open doors lead us to confusion if we are not keen. Many young believers also want to venture into finding God’s will. This does take a lot of commitment because it doesn’t happen in a snap. In this journey we are taking, we will discover some ways we can use to find God’s will for our lives.
First and foremost, for you to be aligned to God’s will, you need to surrender your life to Christ. By this, you are giving out your all to Him, and allowing Him to take lead in your life. Let’s make the believer’s prayer,” Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe you died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite you to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow you as my Lord and Saviour. “Amen. Now that you are born again, we’ll get to learn ways we can know God’s will.
Our first important way is prayer. It is talking to God, seeking direction, and waiting on Him to answer. I call God my Father, so to me, I understand that I need to embrace God, talk to Him daily. It’s fine to tell God your needs, requests, and desires, but we should Also seek deep fellowship with Him. With this, as a Father, He will open up to us His desires for us, He will tell us His deep secrets and also teach us how to please Him and love Him. By doing this, we’ll be able to understand His will for our lives.
Reading the word is also another way of finding God’s will. God’s word is found in the Bible. We need to read it daily to see what He’s telling us. Don’t be the group that reads the Bible on Sunday service. It won’t make much benefit to you. God tells us in Joshua 1.8 that we should not allow the book of the law to depart from our mouths, but rather we should meditate on it day and night, and we may observe to do according to what’s written in it to be prosperous and have success. Who doesn’t want success in life? In Google blogs, we find ideas about how to be successful, ways to achieve greatness, but all these secrets are stored in the Word of God. When we read the word, we get to see the secrets, we get to understand what He says, and when we follow that, we’ll be successful.
The third step well look at is obeying the word. Obeying God’s word is actively doing what it says. James 1:22-24 encourages us to do God’s word. He goes on to say that whoever reads the word and does not do what it says is like a man who looks at a mirror, and when he walks away, he forgets what he was like. Obeying God’s word pleases Him and has great reward.
Finally, after doing all these, it’s good to have good counsel. We are normally told that bad company corrupts good morals, and that iron sharpens iron. Having bad company just makes you miss out on hearing what God’s will is for you. The Psalmist started His book by telling us that, Blessed is the man who doesn’t walk in the counsel of the wicked. Then, we should always strive to get counsel from Godly people. We should cherish and obey Godly advice for it is wise. This will then prevent us from endangering our lives in sinful behavior.
