Is Peace a Dream?

I once heard somebody say that peace is an elusive dream. This provoked me to seriously give attention to my environment through the lens of this person. Sadly, I realised that what people understand as peace can be defined in plain terms as fear.

Do we realize that our own minds can be the real threat of our peace? This is where emotional battles run without scrutiny or confrontation by another party. To Quote Bhuwan Thapaliya, “a peaceful mind is the most lethal machete to chop the miseries of our life.” Can we find peace within ourselves and not necessarily hold others as a source of our lack of it?

After all what is this peace anyway? Wayne W. Dyer considers peace to be the process of retraining your mind to process life as it is rather than as you think it should be. The oxford dictionary defines peace as freedom from anxiety or disturbance. Peace can also be described as a period where there’s no war or violence.

This life exposes us to daring situations that threaten our very existence making us prone to fears, worries, anxieties, diseases and such other loads of threats to human sanity. This reminds me of the famous Psalmist David asking rhetorically “When the foundations are shaken, what does the righteous do?”

The answer is in Proverbs 18:10. They run to the Name of the lord, a strong tower, they find safety against all life’s calamities and catastrophes. Clearly the only refuge for humanity is Jesus. In affirmation, the Bible reminds us that Jesus is the prince of peace and He gives us peace that’s beyond life’s challenges. The question is can we look up to Him in total trust beyond the glare of our day-to-day peace threatening circumstances.

Friends, let us draw from the fresh cisterns through these Bible verses on peace:

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7(ESV)

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. John 14:7(ESV)

And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. James 3:18(ESV)

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Matthew 5:9(ESV)

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. John 16:33(ESV)

Prayer

Father we thank you for your peace. We pray that you may help us to remember that you will never leave us nor forsake us. Help us to trust in your word which does not change. May your peace be our portion always. Amen
