Learning from Prophet Elijah

In the History of the Bible, we see different characters who moved in the might and grace of God in their time. One of them is prophet Elijah. This man was a unique character whose word never failed according to the Bible records. He left his foot marks wherever he stepped through his deed or word. His track record is captured in the raising of the dead, Mt. Carmel contest where he called down fire from heaven and to the amazement of the witnesses it was so, shutting the rain from Israel and even more perplexing was the way he departed to meet his creator in the sight of his successor, by a chariot of fire.

Clearly, this man’s earthly exploits should draw our interest to desire to pick something from the life of such a legend.

Obedience

In 1 Kings 17:8-16, the widow of Zarephath served prophet Elijah her last meal upon his request. This marked an unending supply as her jar of oil and bin of flour never got used up according to the word of the Lord spoken through Elijah. Let us purpose to obey God regardless of the situation.

God’s will, His bill

This man served God passionately in his office of designation. In return God catered for his needs.  In 1 Kings 17:6 God used ravens to provide for His servant, Prophet Elijah. God can use the most unexpected ways to provide for us, we just need to trust in Him.

God cannot be defeated

Elijah challenged 450 prophets of Baal to prove their gods were idols in 1 Kings 18:17-40. God showed up to prove that He was the one and true God and He was alive. In our current lives, God can show up, fight our battles, and give us victory.

To ponder

Are you facing battles that seem to be overwhelming? God is alive and He promises to fight for His children.

Prayer

Father thank you for your constant provision and presence in our lives. Help us to trust and rely on you always for you are dependable and unchanging. We pray that you may show us your ways and cause us to live in obedience to you and your word. Amen.
