The Blessing of Healing

If God was to physically appear and ask you if He could heal you, what would your answer be? Can God heal the sick? Does He still restore good health to the physically afflicted? In Exodus 15:25-26 (ESV), God introduced Himself to Israelite’s saying, “…I am the LORD, your healer.” God is indeed our Healer and Great Physician.

God said, “I am [present tense] the Lord your healer.” God always is, He never changes. God is always the Lord that heals you. Many Christians today do not believe this. They have changed what God has said into: “I was the God that healed them.” Some have come to believe that it is not God’s will for them to be healed. If you allow other people’s experiences of struggle with sickness to shape your thinking on God’s ability to heal, then you will miss out on God’s blessing of healing. What makes you think that Jesus would heal the sick while He was here on earth and not heal you? Would you rather believe God and get healed or not try at all?

One thing that stands out in scripture, is that God has already made provision for healing to everyone that releases his/ her faith in Him. In 1 Corinthians 12:1 (ESV) it says “Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed”. Verse 4-5 (ESV) says Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord”. Verse 7 says “To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” Pay attention to that part that says “for the common good”. You can also see that these gifts have been given for the benefit of the Church. From verse 8 to 10 of 1 Corinthians, it shows the different ways by which the Holy Spirit manifests through God’s people. In Verse 9, the last part says “to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit”. This is proof that it is God’s will for His people to walk in good health.

You have to understand that sin and sickness were laid upon Jesus on the Cross. Why did He bear your sickness and sin? He bore them so that you would not have to bear them. 1Peter 2:24 (ESV)  He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. 3John 1:2 again says “Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul”.

Throw off anything that would hinder you from enjoying this blessing. A Christian who does not turn away from sin can hinder the blessing of healing coming his/ her way. If you do not have a relationship with Christ Jesus, please know that He still desires to heal you but your relationship with Him comes first. Embrace the gift of salvation and receive Him as your personal saviour.

Have an expectant heart as we take this time to pray. Whether you are the one in need of healing or you are standing in faith on behalf of someone else, be expectant. The Lord will honour His Word.
