What guarantees a successful prayer life- 3

The prayer of Faith

What informs your prayer? Is it a need that you may have or confidence in God that He is willing to respond to your need? When you talk about needs, it’s quite interesting to find out that everyone in this world has one. Regardless of one’s social status, there is always that one need that will call for divine intervention. Money, power or connections always have a limit on how far they can go when it comes to accessing matters that can only have intervention from God.

As God’s child, you have an invitation to make your requests known to God regardless of what it is. You can see this in Philippians 4:6 (ESV) that says “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God”. This creates confidence in the believer’s heart that God is willing to respond to any need presented to Him.

When we understand that nothing is too hard for God, then we shall take His Word as it is and by faith claim the promise of the Father in our lives through His Son Jesus Christ. God’s might is brought out clearly throughout the Bible. Jeremiah 32:17 (ESV) says ‘Ah, Lord GOD! It is you who has made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you’. The God who brought about all that has ever existed and that which exists and will exist is your God. If you are saved by the ultimate sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ, then you have access to His might and one of the ways is through prayer.

Prayer is an act of faith. If we pray without faith then our prayer will be ineffective. Mark 11:24 (ESV) says “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours”. Jesus is assuring us in this scripture that the prayer of faith produces results. This faith is towards God alone.

Perhaps you may ask what faith is. Hebrews 11:1 (ESV) says “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen”. Faith is Confidence in God. Faith is trust in God. Faith is belief in God. Faith is reliance on God. Better still, faith is unquestioning belief that does not require proof or evidence but it claims what God says in His Word to be true.

It is God’s will that we have complete trust in Him. This pleases Him according to Hebrews 11:6 (ESV) that says “And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him”. When you are praying for something which God has promised you in His Word, you can pray confidently and in faith. Believe that you receive the answer at the moment that you pray. First, believe that you receive and then you will have it.

Begin to thank and praise God for the answer immediately after you have prayed. Thank God when you pray, not just when you see the answer. Make a statement of what you believe, and praise God for the answer.  This is called the prayer of faith and it guarantees a successful prayer life
