Sweet Holy Spirit, My Helper

How do you handle a gift given to you?

Having that imagery in your mind, equate that gift to the Holy Spirit, whom Jesus gave to us. In John 15:26(ESV) Jesus said ‘But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father…’ Jesus knew what it felt like to be human, lonely, and helpless to the schemes of the enemy and the hardships of this world. He wanted us to walk in fellowship with God and he gave us evidence of his presence with us.

Fun fact, the Greek word used for the Holy Spirit is Parakletos, which means one who is called to help. It also means an intercessor, an assistant, or one who pleads the cause of another before a judge. This description goes hand in hand with the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives. He is our Comforter, Counsellor, teacher, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, and friend.

True or false, we tend to ignore the person Holy Spirit? Have you ever been ignored before? That is how He feels when we don’t engage him. John 16:7 shows us his place in our lives as Christ shared, ‘Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you’. Who doesn’t want a helper?

Take a moment of silence and thank Jesus for this beautiful gift. Then proceed to ask the Holy Spirit to reveal himself to you. Talk to him and get to know him. Your life will never be the same again!
