The Bible – God’s Holy Word

Introduction

The word of God – The Holy Bible is God’s special book. It is not like other books, but is a supernatural book. It was written by many different people, who wrote by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit (2 Timothy 3:16).

The Bible has been translated into more languages than any other book in the world. It was originally written in three languages – Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek. No matter the translation, the Bible remains consistent with God’s thoughts and plans for mankind.

The Bible is also one of the oldest books in the world. The most ancient portions of the Bible date back almost 4,000 years yet it is still the most modern book in the world today. It answers life’s greatest questions:

  1. Where did I come from?
  2. Why am I here on earth?
  3. Where will I go after life on earth?

The Bible is made up of 66 canonical books but it has only one central theme: God’s loving plan to rescue mankind. It is divided into two sections – Old Testament which tells us about God’s work with His People before the birth of Jesus and the New Testament which tells us about Jesus’ birth, His life, His great ministry of healing and forgiveness reconciling mankind with God.

The purpose of the word of God

2 Timothy 3:15-17 NKJV

… and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.  All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

  1. It cleanses, – John 15:3
  2. It keeps clean, – Psalms 119:9
  3. The word of God is light for our lives – Psalms 119:105, Psalms 119:130
  4. The word of God is spiritual food – Matthew 4:4
  5. The word of God is seed – Luke 8:11
  6. The word of God is like a sword – Ephesians 6:17, Hebrews 4:12
  7. The word of God helps us to pray – John 15:17
  8. The word of God is strong in is us – Matthew 7:24 -27

Conclusion

The history of the word God is TRUE and its doctrine and precepts are holy and binding. It contains light to direct us, comfort to cheer us and food to support us. It builds inner concrete within our lives so that no matter what may come against us, we will stand strong. It should fill our memory, rule our heart and guide our feet. Read it frequently and prayerfully, believe it to be safe and practice it to be holy.
