World Youth Skills Day

On World Youth Skills Day, we celebrate the vibrant energy and potential of our young generation. The word of God emphasizes the importance of acquiring knowledge, wisdom, and skills. The Bible recognizes the value of education and the development of talents and abilities, as they play a pivotal role in shaping not only individual lives but also the future of communities and nations.

1. God’s Unique Design for Youth

Psalm 139:13-14 “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Each young person is a masterpiece, created with unique talents and abilities. God’s design ensures that every individual possesses the potential to acquire and develop specific skills. It is the responsibility of every youth to recognize and nurture these talents and discover their purpose and passions.

2. Embracing wisdom and understanding

Proverbs 1:7 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” The foundation of any skill development lies in gaining wisdom and understanding through reverence for God. The youth should seek knowledge from a biblical perspective to ensure that their skills are rooted in principles of righteousness, integrity, and humility.

3.Diligence and hard work

Proverbs 10:4 states, “A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.” Cultivating a strong work ethic and teaching youth the value of perseverance prepare them to face challenges and seize opportunities. Biblical principles of diligence enable the youth to embrace growth and become leaders in their chosen fields.

4. The Role of Mentoring

In the Bible, we find numerous instances of intergenerational mentorship. From the relationship between Elijah and Elisha to Paul’s guidance of Timothy, the Scriptures emphasize the significance of investing in the next generation. Experienced adults are called to support and mentor the youth, sharing their knowledge, skills, and life experiences, ensuring that the youth walk on the path of righteousness.

5. Compassion and empathy

Jesus demonstrated profound compassion for the vulnerable and marginalized, setting an example for us to follow. As youth face various challenges and uncertainties, a compassionate and empathetic environment should be offered to foster growth, emotional well-being, and resilience.

6. Embracing creativity and innovation

Our Creator God endowed humanity with the ability to innovate and create. Exodus 31:3-5, we see how God filled Bezalel with His Spirit to craft beautiful works of art. On World Youth Skills Day, let us encourage young people to embrace their creativity, explore new ideas, and use their skills to improve the world around them.

World Youth Skills Day reminds us of the divine potential within each young person and the responsibility mentors should nurture and equip the youth.

About the teachings of the Bible, we find wisdom that guides and empower the youth with the right skills and knowledge. Let us commit to investing in the growth and encouraging the youth to seek wisdom and understanding by fostering an environment of mentorship and compassion. By doing so, we can shape a generation of skilled, capable, and Christ-like leaders who will impact the world positively.
